Beginner Guide for in-game chat channels
Composed by PerizotaCOMMUNITY TA - Coursera 2014

A significant number of our newer folks have had a steep learning curve regarding in-game chat. This beginner guide is meant to enable you to join the chat channel and actually chat in it!

Step 1: There will be a chat window in the bottom left of your screen.

In the window, type /joinchannel coursera then hit Enter. (There is a space between the words.)

You will see a note that says “You joined room 'coursera' (UserChat1).

If you already have chat channels set up it may say UserChat2, 3 or 4.

Step 2:
At the top of the chat window you will see tabs.

If you right-click on the tab a menu will appear. Select Change Filters.

You will see a long list of options. The ones you want are at the bottom. It lists User Chat 1, 2, 3 and 4. Check the one you need based on the note you received when you set it up.

In the tab you selected in chat window, type /1 then hit Enter. (Or 2, 3 or 4)

This will put you at an open prompt for the coursera chat channel.

Start typing. Hello works wonders. :)

Step 3: Customization

You can change the font color and size.

If you right-click on the tab a menu will appear. Select Change Text Colors.

This will open the appropriate page in the Options menu. Scroll down to the bottom. You can pick a color and font size for each UserChat channel.

At the top of that page you can change the opacity of the entire chat window.

Make certain you click the Accept button at the bottom of the Options window.

The full list of chat commands is located here: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Commands

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please post them or ask in-game.
